BONFIRE NIGHT

On November 5th people remember the plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament by celebrating 'Bonfire Night'. All over Britain there are firework displays and bonfires with models of Guy Fawkes, which are burned on the fire. This video from The British Council's LearnEnglish site explores the origins of the festival and looks at how it's celebrated now.

COLUMBUS HISTORY

Columbus was an explorer. In 1492, he sailed from Europe to America. He and his sailors crossed the Atlantic Ocean, not knowing where they would land. It was a voyage into the unknown. After Columbus, other Europeans began to explore and settle in America.
